Words of Wisdom

In a recent article for The Denver Post, Denver Bronco rookie Montee Ball said that his teacher asked him in second grade what he wanted to be when he grew up. He answered "Football player in the NFL." She seemed to think he should have a second choice. His reply was, "But my dad always told me, if you have a back up plan,  you've already failed."

Those words of wisdom helped him stick to his plan, and now he IS playing in the NFL!

What words of wisdom have your parents or teachers or coaches shared with you about life? Do you have a favorite quote you use to live your life by? If not can you think of what words of wisdom you like? How have those words of wisdom helped you?

What's in the Bag?

There's a game called "What's in the Bag?" where you try to guess who the person is by pulling out the items or artifacts in the paper bag one at a time. The items are random things that are important to the person. For example, if we played the game and pulled out a (1) football, (2) Bronco Jersey (3) Super Bowl ring, (4) map of Indianapolis, Indiana...who do you think would be "in the Bag? Peyton Manning, of course.

Now, imagine you are putting items or artifacts in the bag for people to try to guess that you are "in the bag." What items or artifacts would you put in the bag? Tell why that item is important to you? Be specific, give details, try to imagine us pulling that item out of the bag as you describe it.

Self Esteem

Having a healthy self-esteem is your armor against the challenges of the world. Self-esteem can be defined as how much a person values himself or herself. One way to develop a good, healthy self-esteem is to understand what your strengths and your weaknesses are. Although this can change as you go through your life, think about at this time what do you feel you are good at and what things you are not good at.

For this response, think about the things you feel you are really good at. For example do you think you are a math whiz, maybe your a wonderful swimmer, maybe you can make the best cookies in your family, maybe you are a great and loyal friend. Be honest with yourself, what are your strengths? How do you think you became so good at these things ( it can be more than one!)

Having a good self-esteem means knowing you are going at something and taking pride in that fact! It is not bragging. It's knowing that if someone were to make fun of you because your NOT good at know what you are good at!
