Self Esteem

Having a healthy self-esteem is your armor against the challenges of the world. Self-esteem can be defined as how much a person values himself or herself. One way to develop a good, healthy self-esteem is to understand what your strengths and your weaknesses are. Although this can change as you go through your life, think about at this time what do you feel you are good at and what things you are not good at.

For this response, think about the things you feel you are really good at. For example do you think you are a math whiz, maybe your a wonderful swimmer, maybe you can make the best cookies in your family, maybe you are a great and loyal friend. Be honest with yourself, what are your strengths? How do you think you became so good at these things ( it can be more than one!)

Having a good self-esteem means knowing you are going at something and taking pride in that fact! It is not bragging. It's knowing that if someone were to make fun of you because your NOT good at something...you know what you are good at!

  1. I think that one thing I’m good at is acting. I have been an actress in several plays including Roul Daul’s Matilda, where I was the star. I like expressing my feelings into my character and I’ve had plenty of practice.

  2. Think About It: Self Esteem
My strengths are performing, math, dressing nicely, and reading. I have been in five plays and have experience with performing and all the tricks. For example, you have to make eye contact for the audience so that they are sure you can hear you, and you have to speak loudly. I like math and am good at it, because I am in sixth grade math with Mrs. Maxey. I also think that I am good at math because I can problem solve and do computation quickly. I am good at dressing nicely. This doesn’t seem like a real talent, but I feel confident that I know which shirt goes with which pair of pants. I also like to do makeup and know how to apply it, and what colors go with what colors. Last, I am good at reading. I can finish 100 pages in about a day. I have read 52 books this school year. I think that reading is fun, so I do it a lot!!! I think that I am good at performing, math, dressing nicely, and reading.

  3. I am great at football, I am a good problem solver, and I am a loyal friend. First, I think that I am naturally good at football but got better from practice. I really like to play catch with my parents and I think that helps me be a better receiver. Second, I think that I am a good problem solver because I play a lot of lego video games and in those games I have to figure out how to get past obstacles with the skills of the characters in the game. Last, I am a loyal friend because I like having people that value me for who I am around me.

  4. I think I’m very good at lots of things but not perfect. One thing I think I’m very good at is lacrosse. I think I might be the second best player on my team. I usually will make a lot of goals in every game and I almost always get the ground balls. I never cheat to be good I always follow the rules. I think why I’m good is because I know a lot of things about lacrosse the parts of the stick, all the rules, what to wear, etc. I think I am very good at this sport because I have been playing lacrosse for a long time and I have never gave up even though started really bad. I went to camps to improve and play with my brother and get tips from him. I used to be one of the of the worst but now I’m on of the bests. I think if you stick to something and don’t give up and keep practicing you can be good at that. That is what I think I am very good at, the sport of lacrosse.

  5. One of my strengths is basketball. I think I have gotten good at it because I have practiced for so many years. I have also watched my sisters play since I was very young. I have been around sports and especially basketball all of my life. I play basketball and I usually go to my sister’s basketball games when I can. Basketball is my passion and I will always love it.

  6. Having a healthy self esteem is important to have. I think I am good at singing. Once, I tried out for a solo in my school concert.I did not get the part but my friend said I was a really good singer which makes me feel really good about myself. I think the reason I think I am a good singer is because ever since my dad introduced me to songs by Ella Fitzgerald, I have always loved her voice and I thought it was even cooler that she had the name Ella just like me.

  7. If I was listing my self esteem from what I am really good at and what things I am not good at I would have many things listed for each one. Some things that I am really good at is irish dance. It might sound kind of weird for me but I am really good at it and I am proud of it. Another thing that I am good at is drawing. I have learned from mermaids to rainbows and to bubble letters just by being good at it. Some things that I am not good at is base ball. I have always had to watch my sister play softball and I got taught that it s mostly like baseball and one I played with my sister in one game and it did not turn out well. One more thing that I am not good at is Science. Ever since i have gone to franklin I have noticed one thing that is not my favorite which is Science. I used to get interested in it but now it is just not something I am good at. As you can see, I have some not good at self esteems and some good self esteems. What are your self esteems?

  8. One thing that I think that I am good at is reading. Though I may not be the fastest reader, I am really good at connecting what I read and interpreting it. At first I wasn’t so good at reading I was one of the only people in the class that couldn’t read but once I figured it out I took off and reached for the stars. I don’t know why I’m good at reading all I know is that I love to read.

  9. Something that I feel that I’m good at is my jump shot in basketball. On my basketball team, most people have bad form on their shot. They either throw it instead of shooting it or something else. When I see this, it makes me feel proud and have self esteem about myself that I’m one of the only guys that shoot correctly on my team. I think that I got good at my jump shot from practicing the right way how to do it all summer. Also, in basketball practice, we do an exercise that we shoot with one hand with a miniature basketball to get the form correct. These are the reasons why I think that I have good self esteem about myself and my jump shot.

  10. I feel like I am really good at spelling, social studies, and reading. I think I am a good swimmer. One of the things I’m not good at are speaking in front of a crowd, unless I’m used to them. I’m also not good at math or writing.

  11. I feel as if I am driven forward with self esteem in soccer and math. My strengths are that I am persistent, a hard worker, and I have a brilliant mind for things I do/like. I became good at these things because I tried hard, had fun, and persisted until I was good enough for my expectations.

Having a healthy self-esteem is your armor against the challenges of the world. Somethings I am good at is climbing trees. I think I became good at it by trying and trying until I found a way to get up. I have always found a way to climb a tree. If I’m mad I will go up a tree. Any tree in my eyes can be climbed. A tree can be anything. You can tell a tree anything they can’t judge you.

  13. I am a really good friend. I am always there to help my friends. Sometimes they have really bad fights with of my other friends and I will help sort it out. And other times my friends are really nervous, scared, etc. I will give them advice about what I think would help. I am also a good friend because I am there if my friends want to talk to me. Like this one time my friend was super upset because her guinea pig had to go to the vet because it had three fractures in it’s hip. By the end of the conversation she was laughing and had nearly forgot about the guinea pig.

  14. My strengths are swimming, math, spelling, and writing. I have been swimming since I was little, and I am state champion in a few events. I am good at math, and I feel like I have been for so many years. I learned to count when I was very young, and I have loved to count ever since. I am a good speller. I have finished in the top 3 in the spelling bee for two years in a row, and the best part is... I love spelling. Last, I think I am good at writing, because my words flow from my head, and I don't worry that much. I want to be a writer. I don't like to brag, but I have many strengths.

If I were to say I was good at something, I would say I was good at snowboarding. For example, even though I didn’t take lessons I figured out how to turn and go off small jumps.
One thing at I am bad at is trying to find a book. For example, when I was trying to find a book last year, my mom kept requesting books but I was too picky.

  16. My Best Strength
    By: Rachelle

Of all of the things that I’m good at, I would say that my strongest is cooking. Cooking is a strength that I’ll always have and I love doing it. Ever since I was little, I’ve always been excited about cooking food for me and my family. As far back as I can remember, my mom and grandma have always been teaching me new recipes and the secret ingredients to what make them taste so great. I think that I have gotten pretty good at cooking by what else? Practice! I think that practice is always the answer to getting better at anything.

  17. My Best Strenght

I think I’m great at somethings but not exactly perfect. One of my strengths is soccer, I think I’m good at soccer because I’m not afraid to get out they and show yeah I can do this, I can play tough, I can play right. My coach is always telling ‘great ball Caroline!’ and ‘great shot!’, soccer is also a big part of my life. I started when I was 4 or 5, so I have worked my way of the chain to get where I am now. I usually wear the right uniform and I never forget to put on shinguards or cleats etc, but it is not like I haven’t done anything wrong in soccer. I make mistakes all the time, you just have to keep on working hard and you will get there. I loved this sport and I have loved it ever since I started playing it.

  18. If I had to say one thing that I’m good at I’d say I’m good at rock climbing. I think I’m good at rock climbing because I’m on a team and I rock climb EVERYTHING!!!!
But one thing I say I’m bad at seeing things without my glasses, but if it was close I wouldn’t need them.

  19. I’m not that good at some things, like throwing a ball, or playing soccer. Some things I’m too afraid to do, like participate in a talent show, or a spelling bee. But some things I love to do, like writing, baking, and dancing. My friends support me in the things I love, and give me courage. I also excel by thinking about what I’m good at, and what I need to work on,It makes me I realize what I can do. Right now my strengths are being optimistic, working out a plan, and setting myself goals. But My friends and strengths aren’t the only things that keep me going, it’s also my determination, my persistence, and hard work. Those are the things that make me succeed. I feel like I use these skills for many things. When I bake and I burn something, I am determined to bake it right next time. When I’m writing, my persistence to finish helps me write my very best. And when I dance, hard work keeps me on my toes(literally). My friends, realizing my strengths, and being hard working allows me do my best... thats what gives me self esteem.

  20. Some things that I feel I am really good at are math, tennis, and skiing. I think I excel at math because of my ability to break down problems so I can make it easy and find the answer. I also have confidence in my math skills because of the support that my parents give me; especially my dad. I think the reason that I am confident in my tennis skills are because of my passion for the sport and the fact that I have already proven to myself that I can succeed in the sport. The reason for my passion of the sport is that I have so much fun playing the sport. I proved to myself that I can succeed in the sport in the summer of 2012 when my tennis team and I made it to the finals and placed second in the USTA ten and under Colorado tennis league. Skiing is a sport that I feel comfortable participating in because of the support that I receive and because I enjoy it so much. I mainly receive support from my mom because of all of her skiing experience. I also enjoy the sport because I get to spend time with my family doing it. I have many things that I am not confident about but also many great strengths such as these.

  21. My strength is my presidential knowledge. I can name all the presidents and state 2 interesting facts each. I learned these from books i read when I was 5. They’ve stuck with, they’re that important.

  22. I think I’m really good at many things which have helped me with my self esteem. Things like being a great mathematician. I know I am because I can do hard problems and I try no matter what but I still ask questions. I think I became a math wiz because of my love of math. Also, I am a great reader because I love to read any book and I can read very fast and fluently. I became a great reader like a good math student, I loved the subject. I would say I’m a great friend because I want to be friends with everybody. I treat people kindly and want to be a great friend to everyone. I think I am a good friend because I grew up with not so friendly people in Arizona (besides my friends) that I didn’t want to treat others like mean people may have treated them. I am many other things but I think these are the most important.

  23. One thing I am good at is reading. I read a lot and I love doing it! This is important because a lot of kids my age HATE reading, but it is one of my favorite things to do. I am also a great reader. I can probably crank out one or two fairly hefty books a week. Just like my teacher, Mr. H, says, if you read you will excel in other categories. I believe this is part of the reason I am good at writing and spelling. I also enjoy music, which helps me in math, a matter of fact!

  24. I have many strengths in sports and in school. I also have some strengths with my family and friends, and just plain people everywhere. To begin, I have strengths with just people everywhere. When I go to a restaurant and somebody serves me food or refills refills my drink, I always say thank you or please and you're welcome. When I’m meeting a new person I look them in the eye and shake their hand firmly. But There is one weakness with people and me, I seem to have a little trouble with starting conversations with them. I know am getting better but it is still a little tricky with me. I really don’t know what to talk about, but I know I’ll get better.

  25. I feel I have a big strength in sports. I think this because for as long as I remember, I have been playing almost every sport including: football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, swimming, skiing, and snowboarding (7 in all). Not to mention that I used to play soccer. But not only do I play all of them, I feel I am good at all of them also. I feel that I have always been one of the best or the best on my team. I think that I have this strength because I have so much experience in playing all of them or just any sporty event that I could even be playing for fun.I think that my experience is a big reason why I have such a big strength in sports. 26. Some things that I think I’m good at are lacrosse and math. The main reason that I’m good at lacrosse is because my whole entire family plays it or has played it. This transfers to me being good because when I was young I would always go outside and play lacrosse with my older brothers and sister so I practiced it a lot. Everyone knows that to get better at something, you need to practice it, and that’s what I did with my older siblings. I also think I’m good at math because it comes easy to me and I enjoy it. A reason why I’m good at math is because my older brother is a math genius and teaches me lots of things. As you can see, I think two things that I’m good at are lacrosse and math.

  29. Some things that I am good at are tests in math, talking, reading, spelling, being weird/crazy/fun, and eating. I am good at these things for a few reasons. First, I have known and been doing these things my whole life. They have all become good habits. They have all become my traits. Second, I am good at these because I had to learn these things. In school and with the help of my family, I had to learn spelling, how to talk fluently, how to read by myself, how to spell difficult words, how to eat right, how to count, and be my crazy self. Third, I practiced and finally learned how to do these things on my own. Now, I read above my grade level, I comprehend well in math, I spell good and that is how I got into the Franklin Spelling Bee. I am good at a lot of things now. Some things, I know I am not. For example, golfing. That is because I haven’t had a lot of experience. But, that is my opinion.

  30. A Passion is Forever
    By: Anna Bajaj

My main strength is horseback riding. Horseback riding has been my passion for my whole life, and the first time I actually controlled a horse was when I was five years old. By then, I would not stop begging my mom to keep taking me out to Stockton’s Plum Creek Stables. Before the age of five, I had been on several pony rides, and guided trails, but I really never learned the true nature of riding a horse. Soon enough Fall turned into Winter, and Spring to Summer, and I grew into more difficult horses, and grew out of the easier ones. Many years I have taken ballet, gymnastics, tiquando, and soccer, and I have seen those hobbies come and go, unlike horseback riding, which will be my passion forever. As much as I love to ride horses, and as much as I know and get involved with horses, there is still a lot to learn, and I will never stop learning more about horses. I guess what I am saying is there is always something new to learn about riding, or caring for a horse no matter how long you have been around horses. About up to the time I was eight years old, was my first time ever leasing a horse, and not only that, right after I started leasing, I learned to lope, which is another word for a slow canter. I had many adventures with the new mare I was leasing, she had the smoothest lope a morab could have, but unfortunately,in Pepe’s pasture(the horse’s name is Pepe)she wasn't quite the alpha. About a year after I started letting her, a big, black horse, with gigantic hoofs, kicked her in her femur, when she tried moving herself up in the pecking order, by getting hay when it wasn't her turn. we couldnt lease her any more so the owner gave her to a rescue farm where they would take care of her, but no longer leased her. About a year later, I found a new horse- a beautiful little morab with grey skin, a grey mane, but gorgeous white fur-his name is Star-Man-Shazam, but I call him Shazam, truly, he is the apple of my eye, and he will be forever and forever.
